3-D Fetal Technology Striking Fear

I found this on Justin Taylor's blog and had to pass it on.

"Incredibly dangerous." Those are the words one scientist has used to describe 3-D fetal technology that enables us to view babies within the womb. The incredible danger comes from the fact that this will lead people to believe that these are human persons who should not be killed.

Justin sites this article, in which, after having to concede that babies in the womb look and act like infants, scientists compare their brains to an orange sliced in half — a statement that is clearly damage control. The article reports:

Julia Millington, of the Pro-Life Alliance, said it was irrelevant whether someone looking at the images fully understood the science behind it or not. She said people responded to the humanity of the images rather than the science behind them.

This technology is "incredibly dangerous?" For whom? Not the babies.

Hmm. This is very interesting. I'm not sure it's dangerous for the pro-choice arguement either. Most people who are pro-choice aren't arguing over whether a fetus is a baby or a tissue mass. They KNOW it's a baby, a human with potential. They are simply arguing for a woman's right to choose to terminate her pregnancy. I highly doubt that 3D ultrasounds are going to turn very many people who are already adamantly pro-choice to pro-life. It seems the only danger is bringing ignorance about how developed a fetus actually is into the light.

I believe these ultrasounds are powerful tools. Think of all the young girls and women who consider having abortions. Perhaps they've blindly bought into the lie that babies are fetuses. One look at these pictures could change their minds and save a little life. If more and more women decide that a baby in the womb is indeed a life and decide not to have abortions, that could be dangerous to the pro-choice movement. These images could fuel that ...

Jenn actually just had one of these done of little Mia who will be born at the end of November. She is beautiful! She looks just like Tyler. It's amazing what technology can do!
